November is that magic month where I am reminded of how thankful I am for so many things in my life; first and foremost my amazing three children.
It’s that time when reflection on the year’s events begin, appreciation for so many people in our lives are solidified, and the optimism for what will be done better, next year, really begins to take hold. On top of that, November marks the beginning of a series of events that typically result in family, friends, and co-workers coming together; which is something I have always appreciated. I hope that your holiday season is getting off to the same wonderful start as mine. If not, give me a call and let me see if I can help out! YourCause Closes Series A Round of Funding
It is with great enthusiasm that I share the announcement of YourCause closing Series A funding led by Vocap Investment Partners. This is very exciting, as all the funds will be used for growth capital projects such as, the development of new products and services, expansion of our international capabilities, supporting ongoing innovation in the CSR industry and investment in making YourCause a great place to work. Details surrounding specific capital growth projects will be shared at Office Hours, CSRworks 2015 and briefly touched on in these monthly newsletters. IMPORTANT: Holiday Hours of Operation
There is a chill in the air and fireplaces are blazing. During this time of year, the YourCause family will be spending a little time out of the office to devote well-deserved time off with loved ones. Below are the dates that YourCause will be closed for the holidays.
- November 26th through 28th
- December 5th (Closed for a YourCause event. Employees will have limited to no access to communication throughout the day.)
- December 24th through 26th
- December 31st through January 2nd
Client Satisfaction Survey Results
The only way you get better is to ask how you are doing, take the constructive criticism and learn what you need to improve upon. So we asked and 66% of you responded to help us gauge how satisfied you are in the areas of overall satisfaction, the Account Management team, the Customer Service team, YourCause Products and Marketing. With all the information we gathered from our first client satisfaction survey, we gained huge insight into the good, the bad and the ugly. While the full report is not ready to be published, we did want to share with you a few highlights gathered from your feedback.
- 77% of clients would recommend YourCause as a provider to other companies.
- 68% of clients are "overall" satisfied with YourCause.
- 82% of clients feel that Account Managers communicate clearly and effectively.
- 72% of clients prefer to receive product updates from their Account Manager.

YourCause was created after I heard one boy’s story about the injustice that he was forced to endure at the hands of the Lord’s Resistance Army. That was over seven years ago and I’m proud to say, YourCause is still in existence to connect those with means to those in need. New Site Navigation – Coming Soon
In an ongoing effort to improve the functionality and design for all who access CSRconnect we will be updating the main site navigation. Current mock-ups of the new site navigation mirror the updated Administrator navigation that was rolled out last month. Beta testing of the new main site navigation will begin January 2015. At that time, we will be sure to provide more details surrounding what has changed, as well as provide supporting how-to documentation and previews to existing users.
Campaign Product Survey – Coming Soon
Please be on the lookout for a Campaign Product survey in early December that will give you the opportunity to give your feedback on how well CSRconnect supported your campaign. The recommendations and suggestions gathered from this survey will truly help guide future product enhancements in 2015.

MONTHLY BOOK REVIEW
The Hard Thing About Hard Things by Ben Horowitz
I will state it up front, I am a HUGE fan of this book. I will also state, that I feel my enthusiasm is largely attributed to the fact that some of my most memorable business years were from 1999 – 2003; I am the current CEO of a startup; and I have been through some of the very highs and lows that Ben (the author) writes about in this book. Basically, I felt that I could REALLY relate to what he wrote.
That said, and in an attempt to avoid my eagerness to endorse, the book is a candid, blunt, and no-horsing-around-view into just about everything involved in being both a part of and/or starting a new venture and running one through hot times, cold times, and all that’s in between. Written by a man who clearly surrounded himself with some pretty amazing talent, it was as if Ben had journal’d his experience and recounted it within his book. The advice and insights he dispenses touches on everything from human resource management, leadership, growth, expectation setting, product vision, to acquisitions. His views may appear to differ from the mainstream, though I find them to be spot on in most all cases.
Can’t say that this is a great book for a big company, non-leader, and technically uninspired individual. But for those who have a genuine interest in being great within a small company/start-up/fast growth/innovative/non-traditional company, then the book is well worth the read.
