With little food, schooling, hygiene training, and/or medical care, these children-at-risk often turn to the streets, succumbing to desperate measures just to access basic needs. This summer, I will be volunteering with Southern Cross Humanitarian to help improve this situation for children in Peru. Throughout the year groups will be traveling to Huata, a small village near Cuzco, Peru comprised of about 1000 people (about 200 children) and located high in the Andean Mountains, that desperately needs help with their two small schools, an elementary and a preschool. They are solely responsible for the education of their children. Neither of the schools has electricity. The goal of the trip is to install electricity and bathrooms for the elementary school, which has none. Finishing the bathrooms for the elementary school will help the children to be more hygienic, and allow them to function more effectively at school. Electricity would allow the teachers to implement modern teaching tools and helps increase and diversify grade level appropriate instruction for each individual student. My goal is to raise 2,000.00 that will help cover trip costs and project costs at the school. I would greatly appreciate any donations you are able to contribute.
