The Dallas Foundation is the oldest community foundation in Texas. As a community foundation, the Foundation offers a range of ways for local philanthropists to assist the community: donor advised funds, designated and agency endowment funds, field of interest funds, and unrestricted funds. Donor advisors have the right to recommend grants periodically in their areas of interest. Designated and agency endowment funds are established by or on behalf of particular nonprofits that will benefit from the fund. Field of interest funds give discretion to the Foundation to make grants in some area of particular interest to the donor, such as the arts or medical research. And unrestricted funds permit the Foundation to respond to changing community needs by leaving grant making to the Foundation''s discretion.
