“Makeovers with a Mission” was created in memory of my Aunt Mary who passed away after a very long arduous battle with cancer.
Did you know that there are more than 100 types of cancers; any part of the body can be affected. Cancer is a disease that knows NO Boundaries. It affects everyone – the young and old, the rich and poor, men, women and children (WHO, 2006).

About My AuntMary:
During her college years, she developed Hodgkin’s disease which later went into remission. After years of her cancer being in remission, she developed breast cancer. During that time, she had a double mastectomy and both breasts were removed. After going through chemo and radiation therapy, her breast cancer went into remission as well. But then it came back; the doctors found breast cancer again, but this time it was in her lymph nodes. After going through rigorous treatment again, she developed another form of cancer: colon cancer. And finally, her breast cancer came back again but this time in her bones. Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer to metastasize to your bones. Sadly, my Aunt lost her battle with cancer, and I lost a friend. She was a courageous, loving woman who suffered from this terrible disease without complaint. Her attitude was always positive, she always remained true to her faith, and she truly was a joy to be around.
Because she was so special to me, I am starting “Makeovers with a Mission.”
Thanks so much for your Support!
~Chelsea
More Cancer Statistics on the internet can be found by using the links I’ve provided on my website. Here a few more facts from the World Health Organization (WHO, 2006):
- Worldwide, the 5 most common types of cancer that kill men are (in order of frequency): lung, stomach, liver, colorectal and esophagus.
- Worldwide, the 5 most common types of cancer that kill women are (in the order of frequency): breast, lung, stomach, colorectal and cervical.
- A third of cancers could be cured if detected early and treated adequately.
