My name is Kristen Mulvihill and I am a junior at Coppell High School. I chose to participate with the Locks of Love organization in 2004 when I saw many of my peers getting involved in it. I decided to grow out my hair because at eleven years of age I had no money to give, so I felt that by donating my hair I could still make a difference even at my young age. So, over the course of two years I grew out my hair an additional ten inches, the minimum length needed for a hair prosthetic, and went to my local salon to have it cut in 2006. After I cut my hair, I felt that I had made a difference in another child’s life just by giving them a few locks of hair. I believe that Locks of Love is a great organization because anyone can contribute young children, teenagers, and adults. The reason why I chose Locks of Love is because it caters to children specifically and I feel that by helping children with their confidence with a small gesture now, they will grow up to be confident and be able to reach their goals.
