This August I will help build a kitchen in an elementary school in Quito,Ecuador. I will be going on the expedition with Southern Cross Humanitarian Project. The children love to go to school but have to go home for lunch because there is no kitchen in their elementary school. The children miss class because they leave whenever they are hungry, traveling back and forth to their homes for food. I know how important getting a good education has been to me. I want to be part of this great opportunity in making a difference in these childrens' lives. I helped rebuild a Ranger's Station in the Grand Canyon for Youth Classes last summer. I am excited about taking my experience to a different country to help make a difference world wide. The Southern Cross Humanitarian Project cannot solve the problem for millions, but Southern Cross Humanitarian, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, can put in place preventive measures, for children in Ecuador. By providing the basics, with support, they create avenues for children to break the cycle of poverty through food in schools, education materials, hygiene training, volunteer medical care and one-on-one mentoring to help develop personal skills rather than look to the streets for solutions Close

Bridging cultures to help establish long-term solutions for children-at-risk in South America. Working with volunteers to enrich the lives of children-at-risk, Southern Cross:- Facilitates humanitarian expeditions to Peru, Colombia & Ecuador
- Sponsors children, schools and projects
- Provides internships working on-on-one with children
Why We Exist:
A great number of children in South America live in extreme poverty, with less than one dollar a day to survive. With little food, schooling, hygiene training, and/or medical care, there is little hope for a better tomorrow, just a constant cycle of extreme poverty. These children-at-risk often turn to the streets, succumbing to desperate measures such as sex or labor trafficking, criminal delinquency, substance abuse, and/or drug rings, just to access basic needs.
We cannot solve the problem for millions, but Southern Cross Humanitarian can put in place preventive measures for children in Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. By providing the basics, with support, we create avenues for children to break the cycle of poverty through food in schools, education materials, hygiene training, volunteer medical care and one-on-one mentoring to help develop personal skills rather than look to the streets for solutions.
