The Regenerative Sciences Institute (RSI) iGEM team is comprised of a group of undergraduates and recent graduates affiliated with UC Berkeley and UCLA. The International Genetically Engineered Machine competition (iGEM) is the premiere undergraduate Synthetic Biology competition in the world, and uses an engineering approach to biological and medical research.
The iGEM project from RSI this year aims to develop a novel technique for transporting a breast cancer treatment to malignant tumor cells via a bacteriophage. While we have already received some sponsorship from a number of sources, our project will not be viable if we do not obtain sufficient funding. The iGEM Jamboree event will be held at MIT in Cambridge, MA from October 30th to November 2nd, 2009 (where we will publicly present the results of our work and your name will be shown on the list of sponsors), so to be able to prepare our team sufficiently by that time, we would greatly appreciate a response by September 1st, 2009. Regenerative Sciences Institute seeks to help define the emerging discipline of Regenerative Biology by fostering scientific cooperation and creating a unique environment where innovative minds can do original research. Advances in Regenerative Biology are likely to revolutionize medicine: eventually we may be able to regenerate organs as complex as the heart and circumvent diseases associated with aging. We hope to help catalyze such advances by promoting the integrated use of the latest technologies derived from disciplines such as Synthetic Biology and Systems Biology.
