The founder, Trevor Fields, creatively built a new way of bringing clean water to the communities. People would swing the merry-go-round to thrust the water out of the ground to the tank filter that would then be sent to a nearby water pump. Through this system, they were able to let children play with the merry-go-round and put ads on the storage tanks to spread awareness and to educate the public. Before, women would have to walk 5 miles carrying 5 gallons of water, which was about 40 lbs, back to their home. After a few years, PlayPumps would then build their water system at schools enabling improvements in health, education, gender equality and economic development. Close
