1.5 million women and 834,000 men are physically assaulted or raped by their intimate partner every year!
Description of Cause:
Did you know that both women and men in heterosexual and same sex intimate relationships can be victims and/or perpetrators of domestic violence? Full Description of Cause
Did you know that both women and men in heterosexual and same sex intimate relationships can be victims and/or perpetrators of domestic violence? That's right, domestic violence can no longer be viewed as a gender based -violence against women only- societal problem. More and more studies show that both men and women can be emotionally, psychologically, verbally, physically, financially and/or sexually abused. Yet most of our federally funded domestic violence shelter programs in the country (over 2000) offer no or few services to men (and their children) who are victims of domestic violence.
We are working to change that and to bring domestic violence services into the 21st century. We are doing this by creating more public awareness about the inclusiveness of domestic violence and offering supportive services to both men and women who are trying to escape abusive relationships.
Mission Statement:
To provide crisis intervention and support services to all victims of domestic violence and their families in order to help survivors recover from the trauma of domestic violence. We work toward the elimination of domestic violence by increasing public awareness and decreasing tolerance of domestic violence through community collaboration and education.
