For every dollar invested in promoting strong family relationships and preventing child abuse and neglect, at least 3 dollars are saved in medical costs, special education costs, welfare, mental health treatment, and the criminal justice system. The Child Abuse Prevention Center helps teen parents learn about their child's physical and emotional development and promotes a strong relationship between the parents and their child. Your investment provides rich rewards, not only in reducing rates of child abuse and neglect, but in producing school-ready children who are less likely to have serious behavior problems, mental health issues, or to enter the criminal justice system. I am very concerned about the escalating rates of child abuse and neglect in our community, and I believe that the best way to stem it is to support programs that prevent abuse/neglect before it ever gets started.
