Bright Night Providence is an artist-run arts oriented New Year's Eve Celebration. It carries on in the tradition of First Night Providence.
In 2003, a group of local artists stepped in when First Night Providence cancelled its 18 year tradition due to financial woes. In less than 3 months, the artists (with city, corporate, and citizen support) were able to produce a festival that featured 140 performers in over 26 venues, along with a Water Fire, fireworks, and opening ceremonies at the Fleet Skating Center.. Over 12,000 people partook in the festivities. And we didn't lose our shirts!
Each year we've been able to re-create this family friendly tradition. This year (our seventh!), the artists are planning on doing it again, and they are planning on doing it bigger, bolder, and better. More venues, more high quality artists, and more family friendly programming. Close

The What Cheer Art Company is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support for Rhode Island artists, helping them bring their projects to fruition with production advice and financial assistance. Since its founding in 1994, the What Cheer Art Company has been involved in producing and presenting a wide variety of performing arts events in Rhode Island.
We maintain a presence in the physical world, through work with Rhode Island artists, helping to produce new work. However, this means we scant our efforts in the virtual world. This site is therefore slight by the standards of the 21st century, but is a useful service to some of our projects. Just call us a little old-fashioned. Actually, call us whatever you like, but come see some of our projects out there in the real world.
