I've been a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) since 1995 when I graduated with high honors and an Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene at Madison Area Technical College.
I founded "A Fluoride Connection Non Profit Corporation" a non profit tax exempt 501(c)3 public charity on 9/1/2006. Our Board of Directors includes a dental hygienist, nutritionist, accountant, and a secretary. Our mission statement is on every business card and simply reads: "Keeping teeth healthy one child at a time." There are many children in our state who are underinsured and many who are non-insured. Our business provides much needed dental services for those children and there is much work to do.
Currently we work with 10 elementary schools and 18 Head Start locations. We teach the children proper brushing and examine their teeth for any decay. We refer any child with a suspected cavity and place a "fluoride frosting" on their teeth. On the child's first visit, we send them home with a family sized tube of toothpaste and with every visit we send them home with a new toothbrush. It is wonderful to do this with and for the children.
