The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University provides information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our mission is to improve the quality of education afforded to deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21 throughout the United States.
Mission Statement
The Clerc Center, a federally funded national deaf education center, ensures that the diverse population of deaf and hard of hearing students (birth through age 21) in the nation are educated and empowered and have the linguistic competence to maximize their potential as productive and contributing members of society. This is accomplished through early access to and acquisition of language, excellence in teaching, family involvement, research, identification and implementation of best practices, collaboration, and information sharing among schools and programs across the nation.
Clerc Center Goals 2009 - 2012
Goal 1: Students will reach their full potential linguistically and academically from birth through 21 years of age.
Goal 2: The Clerc Center will provide leadership in the identification, evaluation, and dissemination of evidence-based instructional practices, strategies, and resources for deaf and hard of hearing students with disabilities through a national collaborative project with schools and programs.
Goal 3: The Clerc Center will identify and implement a model that will ensure that all deaf and hard of hearing children and their families have early and ongoing access to resources that support the development of linguistic competence.

The College was Chartered in Atlanta in 1947, and is registered with the Secretary of State of Georgia. Christian College is authorized by the State of Georgia to grant diplomas, certificates and degrees in religion, religious studies, and in disciplines related to Christian Ministry.
Funding of the College program is from gifts from congregations and individuals, and from an Endowment. The Endowment was created and is sustained by gifts from a number of benefactors ; the majority of funds held in trust are from the sale of the Athens campus from 1989 to 1997. Offices are located in Statham Georgia in property received from the Statham Christian Church upon it’s closing in 1997. ( This historic sanctuary was constructed in 1900, and was restored by the College in 1997.)
Central to the College Mission is partnership with the Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Georgia. The College is poised to support ministries throughout the Region in educational efforts which are consistent with this mission. In addition, College representatives consult with congregations and clergy in the Region in the development of educational programs for ministry and leader development.
The Mission of the Christian College of Georgia is to nurture, educate and prepare Disciples for ministry & service.

Foreverfamily was the nation’s first organization, and is still the only nonprofit in Georgia, solely dedicated to helping children who—by no fault of their own—have had to struggle with a unique set of challenges. Too often, these include a sense of shame, anxiety and fear, and social stigma, tied to their parent’s imprisonment—all of which can become evident in deep emotional withdrawal or behavioral outbursts. Since its inception in 1987, Foreverfamily (originally known as AIM) has helped more than 10,000 children, each of whom had their own unique challenges to face. Because of the compassionate care and consistent support provided by Foreverfamily staff and volunteers, the lives of these children have been enriched, if not altogether turned around for the better.
