The Smith River Habitat Project (SRHP) is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) formed in 2003. The purpose of the organization is to work in collaboration with public and private entities to positively impact the Smith River Corridor. Activities conducted by the SRHP focus on improvement of wildlife habitat and rangeland along the Smith River through facilitation and application of education and research. The organization is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors representing a cross-section of those communities that care for and use the Smith River for work and play. The Smith River Habitat Project operates on charitable donations, special grants, and volunteers. Your 100% tax deductible contribution will help us to improve and protect the valuable Smith River natural, cultural, recreational, and agricultural resources. The Smith River Habitat Project is committed to working towards a leafy spurge management program that utilizes the most effective methods.
The Project's GOALS are to:
* Develop education and awareness materials for floaters, landowners, outfitters, policy makers, and the general public.
* Fund research to assess and quantify weed populations and impacts, and to evaluate effectiveness of current and future weed management practices.
* Facilitate the development and maintenance of the Smith River Corridor Cooperative Weed Management Area.
Each of us who work & play along the Smith River corridor have something to lose if we don't work together to control Leafy Spurge. Here are a few simple THINGS YOU CAN DO during your visit to the Smith River:
+ Learn to identify leafy spurge and avoid passing through infestations.
+ Clean clothing, gear and equipment between campsites and especially when you leave the river - waterways are major conduits for transporting noxious weed seeds and aquatic nuisance species.
+ Make a donation and help us fight noxious weeds.
+ Spread the word about maintaining healthy ecosystems free from noxious weeds. Close
