Over 32,000 people in the United States die by suicide every year.
This staggering number caught my attention.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) has been created to help and nurture people who have been affected by suicide or are faced with making a decision on taking their own lives.

There are 5 specific areas in which AFSP is very active. AFSP:

-Funds scientific research
-Offers educational programs for professionals
-Educates the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention
-Promotes policies and legislation that impact suicide and prevention
-Provides programs and resources for survivors of suicide loss and people with mood disorders, and involves them in the work of the Foundation
